USPS certified instructors conduct a number of public seminars and member advanced courses on a wide array of topics. The comprehensive public introductory boating class, America’s Boating Course, meets the requirements of the new North Carolina State Law effective May 1, 2010.
The squadron also participates in local community events providing boating education information for both children and adults.
Promoting boating safety qualified members conduct free Vessel Safety Checks for more than 150 boats annually. Members are involved in the Cooperative Charting Project, a USPS and NOAA joint effort to maintain governmental waterway chart accuracy. Pictured to the right is Bill Waite, Dan Meyer and Ed Harris.
Volunteers are involved in Maritime Education Days, assist with the annual Washington Christmas Flotilla, and is proud to support Toys for Tots. Members also help collect for The Salvation Army.
The Cruise Committee organizes a number of boating activities throughout the year. Weekend and longer cruise destinations include Belhaven, Ocracoke, New Bern, Oriental, Beaufort, and Morehead City. Popular day outings include Bath, the Washington Waterfront and the Tar River. Additionally, members frequently cruise north to the Chesapeake, south to Beaufort and points beyond. Bi-monthly member-ship meetings include dinner and guest speaker. Other gatherings ngs at local restaurants are scheduled on a regular basis. See the PSPS Calendar for more information.
